Have you ever wondered...
what it would be like if you could have a real conversation with your cat? I don't mean one where you say something out loud, your cat meows back, and you try to interpret whether or not he/she agrees with you. I am talking about a true dialogue between you and your feline friend during which you discuss matters of great importance related to your current living arrangement. If I were ever to have this opportunity, I know exactly what topics I would tackle with each of my feline friends.
A conversation with Gracie would focus on the way she handles anxiety. Chewing on everything from door stops to cookbooks to metal faucets is not the appropriate way to handle stress. It could actually result in more stress for both of us. For example, a tooth could be injured during one of her frantic biting sessions. Dental trouble leads to vet visits; vet visits involve car rides in cat carriers; car rides in cat carriers require the cat to get in the carrier; and so on... I'm sure you get the point.
During a conversation with Benjamin Bunny, I would definitely bring up the possibility of ADHD testing - for him, not me. I have become increasingly concerned lately with his inability to stay focused for even a few minutes at a time. For example, he will jump on my keyboard, investigate everything on my desk, and then take off to find a misplaced mylar ball. Minutes later I will find him chasing invisible villains through his crackly tunnel until he becomes distracted and needs a grooming break.
Would these conversations result in any significant changes in my cats' behavior? Probably not, but just having them would be interesting enough. I can only imagine Gracie's indignant response to my criticism of her behavior. I am sure she would have a few of her own enlightening comments about mine to share as well. Bunny, on the other hand, would likely tell me to lighten up and enjoy life a little more - advice I would be wise to take.
